NYP SIDM Second Life lab initial setup

Today, NYP's tech department finished the initial setup for the multi-user environments SIDM lab. Second Life is installed and running (thanks Jeremy!). A 1-week test period starts tomorrow Wednesday.

As mentioned in a previous comment, I have the video streaming encoder and server machines up and running so the team can start testing live video inside those fancy SL conference rooms they have already created.

/me is doing the Hokey Pokey in excitement. "Whoa-o!"

So all students will be working at school. It'll be interesting to see (if any) change of interaction among everybody... is it less fun when your SL friends are physically sitting next to you?

SLi : Progress so far

Alrighty, another post of our progress for the whole team. We've got 2 conference rooms done thanks to Nanami fortunately we tested out the distance that normal chatting can reach to make sure everyone in the room can hear and others outside can't.

The tower has been updated with some new stuff as well.

That's me in my new designer Grim Reaper outfit hehe =P

Extra large platforms for maximum expansion and great customisability [remove tiles you don't need and expand wherever needed]; Can be used for walkways or links to interactive areas on the different levels. The huge rooms are conference rooms.

First of the three conference rooms; themed with Japanese influences and artifacts. Conference rooms feature a 'magic' wall in which participants have an unobstructed view of their surrounding but people outside won't be able to look in. Neat huh.

A chic modern look for the conference with similar wall features as the other one. Furnished with dark furniture and ornaments for that contemporary look. It even has curtains!

Last but not least, we have the Tube Elevator (Hamtaro's (Ha0) ) in it. Movement wise .. we spent almost a day making sure the lift wouldn't collide into anything while travelling up and down. Ha0 is currently working on button pressing so guests can go to specific levels.

In conclusion, we're pretty much moving at a nice pace (working from home is great =D ) and keeping on schedule as well. Also, with the SL lab finally up I can start to work on live video streaming.

Bob working in the bar

Well last fri i forgot to update bob here. So i shall make up here. Well i did bob moving around in bar. He will move around and detect if there are any customers around. If there are, he will greets them and they can order drink by clicking on him.

Elevator

Well I am working on the elevator to bring guests to every floor of the tower. Well I got out the distance for it to travel for moving from 1 level to the next. At every level the enterence are facing different direction also. Thus I got the elevator to rotate to face the correct direction. I also did the communication from the buttons to the elevator. The button is able to communicate to the elevator when someone click on the buttons. Will continue to work on the elevator.

Passengers are to sit on the elevator to take the ride. I placed the sitting balls (from nanami) around the elevator so that it'll be easy for people to sit on the elevator.
